Panis et Circenses
Installation and performance

The title Panis et Circenses comes from Latin and means “bread and circus”. It’s also the title of a Brazilian song that belongs to the movement Tropicalismo, which says “all the people having dinner inside, are very busy with their food until they die”.

For this performance, an installation was built with a long table, set for three persons, and a camera in front of each chair. The guests of the exbhibition were invited to have dinner, and the camera should be their only company. The food served was donated by Food Sharing.

This performance is about the idea of the simple action “eating” as a performative act, the deconstruction of a dinner or any kind of meal as a social event and also questions food wasting.
